What is Stanford WebMail?
Stanford WebMail is an email service which may be accessed using a standard web browser. It contrasts with email support reachable through a specialized email customer software.
An Email system where a user may access their emails with a browser on any computer or device that’s connected to the web.
What is SUNet ID?
Your SUNet ID is an account name that identifies you, as a member of the Stanford community. Stanford provides faculty, staff, and students a variety of computing resources and online services. A SUNet ID and password is required to access most of these services.
Once you have a SUNet ID and password, you can access Stanford online services that includes email, AFS, and web hosting.
How to create Stanford SUNet ID?
- Please visit at accounts.stanford.edu
- Click Create a new SUNet ID icon.
- Then select I have a University ID and enter following details:
– University ID:
– Last Name:
– Birthdate: - Note: Students: your University ID can be found on your admit letter.
– Faculty, staff, and special appointments: your University ID appears on your ID card.
– If you do not have a University ID, please contact your sponsor for instructions. - Click on Continue.
- Once chosen, your SUNet ID cannot be changed. Choose wisely because it becomes your permanent Stanford email address.
- For security reasons, there is a 24-hour delay before you will be able to log in to Stanford University websites.
How to Create a SUNet ID From a Sponsorship Invitation
- Go to accounts.stanford.edu.
- Click Create a new SUNet ID.
- Then click on I have a sponsorship code
- On the Identify Yourself form, enter your details, then click continue.
- On the next page type your desired SUNet ID. After two failed attempts, the system will suggest available SUNet IDs.
- Click continue.
- On the Verify Permanent SUNet ID page, click each gray box to acknowledge that you agree to the policies and terms. Click continue.
- On the Choose Your Password page, enter a password that complies with the requirements listed on the right side of the page. Click continue.
- On the next page, choose a question and an answer that you can easily remember. Click continue.
- Your SUNet ID and password are now set. You should have access to the Stanford system within 24 hours or on the date specified in your invitation email.
Stanford WebMail Log in
- First open this webpage.
- Click on Lunch Webmail button
- Enter your SUNet ID and Password.
- Then click on the “Log in” button.
How To Access in Stanford WebMail Log in?
Ways to Log In:
Webmail is all online, so there’s nothing for your to set up. Simply log into using one of the Approaches below:
Option 1: Direct Login
- Open your Browser In your PC or Laptop.
- Go to webmail.stanford.edu.
- Enter your SUNet ID and password and then click Login.
Configure the iOS Outlook App for Office 365
- Open Outlook
- Click Get Started.
- Select whether or not you would like Outlook to send you notifications.
- If you chose to Notify Me, a popup displays saying Outlook would like to send you notifications. Click OK.
- When prompted to add an email account, tap Office 365.
- Enter your @stanford.edu email address and click on Sign In.
- If the WebLogin screen displays, enter your SUNet ID and password and click on Login. Two-step authentication
- may also be required.
- Click on Maybe Later if you would not like to add another account.
Configure the Built-in iOS Mail App for Office 365
- Step 1
Go to Settings - Step 2
Tap Accounts & Passwords and then click on Add Account. - Step 3
Select Microsoft Exchange. - Step 4
Enter the following details and then tap Next.
– Email: your SUNet ID@stanford.edu
– Description: Exchange is entered automatically (you can change this if you wish). - Step 5
When prompted how to sign in to your Exchange account, click on Sign In. - Step 6
On the Login page Enter your SUNet ID and password and click Login. - Step 7
A two-factor authentication prompt will pop up. Select the method of authentication you prefer. - Step 8
Click Continue at the Microsoft login screen. - Step 9
Turn to ON for the areas you’d like to sync and then tap Save. - Step 10
Your Exchange account now appears in Passwords & Accounts. Tap Exchange. - Step 11
Adjust the Mail Days to Sync according to your preferences. - Step 12
Tap your Account email address to view your Exchange account settings. - Step 13
Tap Advanced Settings and verify that Use SSL is turned ON.

Configure the Android Outlook App for Office 365
- Open Outlook.
- Tap Get Started.
- Enter your @stanford.edu email address and then tap Continue.
- On the next page choose an account type, tap Office 365.
- Enter your @stanford.edu email address and tap Sign In.
- If the WebLogin screen displays, enter your SUNet ID and password and tap Login.
- Tap Maybe Later to proceed to your Office 365 email in Outlook.
Configure the Built-in Android Mail App for Office 365
- Select the setting to add an account.
- Select the account type: Corporate Sync or Exchange Active Sync
- Enter the account information:
– Domain\Username: stanford.edu\your SUNet ID@stanford.edu (e.g., stanford.edu\jdoe@stanford.edu)
– Password: your SUNet ID password
– Use secure connection: selected
– Email address: your @Stanford email address (e.g., jdoe@stanford.edu)
– Server: outlook.office365.com
How to Configure Outlook for Windows for Office 365
- Step 1
Open Outlook. - Step 2
At the Welcome screen, click Next. - Step 3
When asked if you want to set up Outlook to connect to an email account, select Yes and then click Next. - Step 4
The Auto Account Setup wizard opens. Enter following details:
– Your Name: Enter your name
– E-mail Address: your email address using your sunetid@stanford.edu
– Password: SUNet ID password.
– Retype Password: Enter password again - Step 5
Then, click Next - Step 6
When you are notified that your account was successfully configured, click Finish. - Step 7
You may need to restart Outlook for the changes to take effect.
Configure Thunderbird for Office 365 Using IMAP
- Step 1
Open Thunderbird and choose to create a new Email account. - Step 2
Click Skip this and use my existing email. - Step 3
Enter your name and your email address. Then, click Continue. - Step 4
Thunderbird will attempt to automatically configure your account settings. - Step 5
Enter the following settings:
Incoming:
– IMAP
– Server hostname: outlook.office365.com
– Port: 993
– SSL: SSL/TLS
– Authentication: Oauth2
Outgoing:
– Server hostname: smtp.office365.com
– Port: 587
– SSL: STARTTLS
– Authentication: Oauth2
– Username (Incoming and Outgoing): your SUNet ID@stanford.edu - Step 6
Click Done. The Thunderbird main window displays. - Step 7
You should be prompted to complete the normal web-based two-factor authentication process
Configure Outlook for Mac for Office 365
- Open Outlook.
- On the Outlook menu, click Preferences and then tap Accounts.
- Select Exchange or Office 365
- Enter the following details for your Exchange account:
– Email Address: your @stanford.edu email address
– Method: User Name and Password
– User name: sunetid@stanford.edu
– Password: your SUNet ID password
– Configure automatically: checked - Then click on Add Account.
- A message displays asking whether you want to allow the Outlook autodiscover server to configure your settings.
- Check Always use my response for this server and click Allow.
- Your Exchange account settings display. Close this window.
Additional account settings
- Right-click your @stanford.edu account name and click Subscribe.
- Select Deleted Items, Drafts, and Sent Items folders and then click Subscribe.
- Click your @stanford.edu account name to display the Thunderbird main window. Under Accounts, click View settings for this account.
- In the Accounts Settings window, click on Server Settings
- In the Server Settings, When I delete a message, select Move it to this folder and then choose the Deleted Items folder on the server.
- Click Copies and Folders
- Select place a copy in: select Other and choose the Sent Items folder on the server.
- In Drafts and Templates select Other and choose the Drafts folder on the server.
- Next, Click on Junk Settings
- Uncheck the box for Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account.
- Click OK to save your changes and close the Account Settings window.
Configure Apple Mail for Office 365
- Step 1
Open Mail. - Step 2
Go to the Mail menu and click Add Account - Step 3
Enter the following details and then click Sign In when done:
– Full Name: the name you want displayed on your outgoing mail
– Email Address: sunetid@stanford.edu
– Password: your SUNet ID password - Step 4
You will be prompted for a two-step authentication. Authenticate to continue. - Step 5
Select the apps you want to use with this account and then click Done.
Recommended setting
- In the Mail menu, click Preferences.
- In the Account, click the Mailbox Behaviors tab.
- In the Trash section, choose the following settings:
– Store deleted messages on server: checked
– Permanently erase deleted messages: Never
