What is SMU WebMail?

SMU Webmail is an email service which may be accessed using a standard web browser. SMU provides email accounts and email services to all authorised users of the University. All SMU faculty, staff, students, affiliates and alumni will be assigned an official SMU email address and account.

Employees can be accessed SMU email via webmail.smu.edu. All student email are hosted on Office 365. You can access your account via office.smu.edu.

SMU Webmail Log in

• First open this webpage.
• Enter your Username and Password.
• Then click on the Sign in button.

Login to Office 365

• Go to SMU Office 365 login page.
• Enter your SMU Email address
• Click on Next Button
• Type your email password
• Then click on Sign In button

Faculty & Staff Email Configuration

The following details is for configuring faculty, staff, and contractor accounts that reside on SMU’s email servers.

General Configuration Information
Server Name:	webmail.smu.edu
User Name	SMUID #
Password	Your SMU Password
Domain	SMU

SMU Email Setup for iPhone

• Open the Settings on your iOS Mobile Device
• Tap Accounts & Passwords
• Tap Add Account
• Choose Exchange
• Enter the following information when prompted:
  – Email Address: Your SMU email address.
  – Description: Whatever you want to call the account
• Click on Next; if prompted for the server, please enter: mail.smu.edu
• Click on Sign In when prompted to choose between Configure Manually or Sign In
• Next, enter your password and click Next
• Select the apps you want to use with the account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes)
• Clcik on Save

SMU Email Setup Android Devices

• Open Settings on your Android device
• Click on Accounts and Sync
• Click Add Account
• Choose Corporate (MS Exchange)
• Enter your Email address and Password
• Click Next
• It will automatically attempt to configure the phone, but will fail. It will fill in several fields that need to be corrected
• Domain\Username: SMU\SMUID
• Exchange Server: webmail.smu.edu
• Use Secure connection should be checked
• Tap Next
• Click Finish

Active Sync (Windows Mobile Phones)

• Click on Active Sync, on the Main Applications screen
• Click menu.
• Choose Add New Server Source.
• Server name: Enter webmail.smu.edu
• If you are prompted to enter an SMU ID number, password, and domain, enter the following:
  – Username: SMUID Number
  – Password: SMU Password
  – Domain: SMU
• If you are prompted to enter only an SMU ID number and password, enter the following:
  – Username: SMUIDnumber@smu.edu, (00001111@smu.edu)
  – Password: your SMU password.

Student Email Configuration (Office 365)

General Configuration Information
Server Name:	outlook.office365.com
User Name	Your @SMU.edu e-mail address
Password	Your SMU Password

iPhone, iPads and other iOS Devices

• Open the Settings
• Click on Accounts & Passwords
• Tap Add Account
• Choose Exchange
• Enter the following information when prompted:
  – Email Address: Your SMU email address.
  – Description: Whatever you want to call the account
• Tap Next; if prompted, click on sign in
• Select Work or School Account
• In the username: Enter your SMU ID number
• Password: Enter your password
• Then click on Login
• When prompted for Administrator Approval, select Approve
• Select the apps you want to use with the account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes)
• Tap Save

Android Devices

• Click Settings
• Go to Accounts and Sync
• Select the existing SMU account and click Delete Account
• Tap Add Account
• Choose Email
• Then Select Office 365
• Type your E-mail address
• Tap Next
• Then enter your username (SMU ID) and password
• Click Login
• Then click Accept Microsoft terms

Mac Mail (Built-in E-mail Client in OS X)

• Go to System Preferences, then Internet Accounts.
• Choose Exchange
• Enter the following details when prompted:
  – Description: Your preferred name for this account on your computer.
  – Username: Your SMU e-mail address
• Click Continue
• On login page, enter your SMU ID number and password.
• Once completed, you can then open Mac Mail.
