What is ONID WebMail?
ONID Webmail is an email service which may be accessed using a standard web browser. OSU provides an ONID email address for all students, faculty, staff. Your ONID username is automatically generated and assigned. ONID gives you access to Canvas, MyOregonState, and many other OSU systems.
Undergraduate students primarily use OSU Gmail for email, and employees primarily use Exchange email. An Email system where a user may access their emails with a browser on any computer or device that’s connected to the web.
Activate your ONID
- Step 1
Go to onid.oregonstate.edu - Step 2
Click on Activate your ONID - Step 3
Enter your OSU ID number and birth date, and click Continue. - Step 4
Read OSU’s Acceptable Use of Computing Resources Policy, and click I Accept. - Step 5
Select a name format, and click Continue. - Step 6
Enter a phone number and an email address and click Continue. - Step 7
Verify both account recovery methods by entering the 6-digit code you received. - Step 8
Set a strong password.
Now, go sign up for Duo before the email reminders start!
ONID Webmail Log in
- First open this webpage.
- Enter your Username and Password.
- Then click on the Log in button.
Change Password
- Visit at onid.oregonstate.edu
- Click on Change my Password
- Enter ONID username and password
- Click Change Password
- Follow the steps to change your password
Forgot Password?
- Go to onid.oregonstate.edu
- Click on Recover my account
- Enter following details in the Identify Yourself: box
– OSU ID Number:
– Birth Date:
– First Name:
– Last Name: - You will be prompted to send a password reset PIN to your alternate contact email and/or phone
– If your alternate contact info is correct, click on Send Password Reset PIN
– If your alternate contact info is missing or incorrect, you will need to call to request a password reset PIN
– Students: contact the Registrar’s Office at 541-737-4331
– All others: contact the Service Desk at 541-737-8787 - When you receive the reset PIN via your alternate contact, enter the PIN and click Submit
- Then, enter your new password, confirm password, and click Set Password.

How to ONID Gmail Setup for iPhone?
Gmail App
- Open the Gmail app
- Select Sign In
- Click + Add account
- Enter your email address
- You may see a screen that says Your Google Account is managed by oregonstate.edu; click Accept
- Enter your username and password on Sign in page
- You will need to Duo auth when prompted
- Select Done
- You can now access your OSU Gmail via the Gmail app.
Built-in Mac Mail App
- Open the Settings app
- Click Passwords & Accounts
- Tap Add Account
- Choose Google
- Enter your username@oregonstate.edu and click Next
- If you see a screen that says Your Google Account is managed by oregonstate.edu; click Accept
- Login with your username and password in Sign In page
- You will need to Duo auth when prompted
- You can now access your OSU Gmail account in the Mail app.
Setup ONID Gmail on Android Device
- Open the Gmail app
- Click on the profile icon
- Click Add another account
- Choose Google
- Enter your device PIN if prompted
- Next, enter your username@oregonstate.edu and click Next
- You may see a screen that says Your Google Account is managed by oregonstate.edu; click Accept
- Login with your username and password on sign in page.
- You will need to Duo auth when prompted
- Once the account is added, click on the account and select Account sync; you can choose whether to synchronize calendar, contacts and other items.
Setup OSU Gmail in Windows Mail App
- Open Windows Mail
- Click on the Settings icon
- Select Manage accounts
- Click + Add account
- Choose Google
- Enter your username@oregonstate.edu and click Next
- Login with your username and password on sign in page.
- You will need to Duo auth when prompted
- You will see a window that says Windows wants to access your Google Account; Click Allow
- Select Yes if you want Windows Mail to save your username and password, on the Remember sign-in info screen
- Next click Done
OSU Gmail Setup in Outlook on Windows or Mac
- Open Outlook
- If you have used Outlook before:
– Windows: select File> Add Account
– Mac: Outlook menu> Preferences> Personal Settings> Accounts> + symbol> E-mail… - Enter your email address (username@oregonstate.edu)
- Go to IMAP settings:
Windows:
– Select Advanced Options and check Let me set up my account manually
– Choose IMAP in the Advanced Setup window
Mac: Choose IMAP - Enter the following details for IMAP Account Settings:
Under Incoming mail:
– Server: imap.gmail.com
– Port: 993
– Encryption method: SSL/TLS
Under Outgoing mail
– Server: smtp.gmail.com
– Port: 465
– Encryption method: SSL/TLS - Enter your ONID password if prompted
- Login at the Oregon State University login screen if prompted
- You may see a prompt to allow Microsoft apps & services to access your Google Account; click Allow
- Outlook may take a minute to finish setup; click Done when prompted
- Outlook should now begin syncing your Gmail mailbox.
OSU Gmail Setup in Mac Mail
- Open Mac Mail
- Click Mail, then click Accounts
- Choose Google from the list
- Then click Open Browser when prompted
- Enter ONIDusername@oregonstate.edu and click Next
- Enter your username and password on login page.
- You will need to Duo auth when prompted
- Select desired options (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Notes) and click Done
- Check inbox and if there are emails it should be ready.
Add Exchange Online account to iOS device.
Setup New Default Mail App
- Open the Settings app
- Tap Passwords & Accounts
- Tap Add Account.
- Select Exchange
- Enter your OSU email address and Description, then tap Next.
- You’ll receive a prompt asking sign in to your Exchange account using Microsoft. If you’d like to sign in, Tap the Sign In.
- Enter your OSU Login password, then tap Next.
- Next, choose which items you’d like to sync with your device. When you have finished adjusting your sync settings, tap Save.
- You have successfully added your Exchange Online account to your iOS device.
Setup a New Microsoft Outlook App
- Open Microsoft Outlook
- Enter your OSU email address( username@oregonstate.edu), then click on Add Account button.
- Enter your OSU password, and Description, then click the Sign In.
- Next, Click Maybe Later
- You’ve successfully added your Exchange Online Account.
Add Exchange Online account to Windows
Outlook 2019
- Open the Outlook
- Enter your email address, then click Connect.
- Select Exchange
- Enter your password, then click OK.
- Next Enter your OSU Login password, then click Sign In.
- Click OK
Outlook 2016
- Open the Outlook 2016
- Click on File > Add Account > Account Settings
- Select E-Mail Account.
- Enter your OSU E-mail Address and OSU Login password, then click Next.
- Click Finish to complete the account setup
Add Exchange Online account for MacOS
Mail.app
- Open the Mail application.
- Click on Mail menu and click on Add Account…
- Select Exchange, then click Continue.
- Enter your full name, and your OSU email address.
- Then click Sign In.
- Click on the Sign In button.
- You may be redirected to the OSU Federated Login page. Enter your OSU Login password then click Sign In.
- Choose the content you’d like to sync with your Mail client, then click Done.
- You’ve successfully added your Exchange Online account to your Apple Mail client.
Add Exchange Online account for Android
Setup a New Microsoft Outlook App
- Open the Microsoft Outlook app, and click on Get Started.
- Enter your OSU email address, OSU Login password, and Description, then click the check mark.
- Click SKIP to proceed to your inbox.
- You have successfully added your Exchange Online Account.
Setup a New Default Mail App
- Open the Settings app on your Android device.
- Click on the Accounts
- Tap the Add account
- Select Exchange
- Enter your OSU email address, then tap Next.
- Enter your OSU Login password, then click Next.
- On Oregon State University Federation Services sign in page enter your OSU email address and your OSU Login password and tap Sign in.
- You may receive a Microsoft Permission requested message, tap Accept.
- You may receive a Redirect Request prompting for permission to send account info to autodiscover.oregonstate.edu, tap OK.
- You may be asked to accept a Privacy Policy, if so click Agree.
- Account configuration should be completed automatically. Tap Next to continue.
- You may receive a Remote Security Administration request, if so, tap OK. Scroll down and tap Activate under Activate device admin app.
- Tap Next to complete the setup process.
- You have successfully added your Exchange Online email and calendar account to your Android device.
