What is BU Google Mail? / What is Bu Webmail?
BU Google Mail, is email hosted by Google Inc, accessible from anywhere. All mail is stored and backed up on Google’s servers, located around the world.
BU Webmail allows the users to send and receive email anywhere from a web browser, as long as you are connected to the Internet. An Email system where a user may access their emails with a browser on any computer or device that’s connected to the web.
Requirements For Bu Google Mail
- You must have a BU ID number.
- You must have a current affiliation with the University – active, or alumni – as determined and verified by Human Resources or the Registrar.
- Non-BU affiliates who demonstrate a business need for a BU Google Mail account are often sponsored for a Guest account.
- Please have your sponsor complete the Guest account request form at bu.edu/help/tech/accounts.
- Department representatives seeking a Departmental/Service account should submit the request through bu.edu/help/tech/accounts.
- Student organizations must have a BU sponsor for group email accounts.
- All individuals must read and comply with the University Conditions of Use and Policy on Computing Ethics.
Google Apps account
The BU Google Apps account is a BU (Boston University) -authorized account hosted via G Suite for Education. Those with a BU Google Apps account can access mail sent to login@bu.edu through BU Google Mail.
The BU Google Apps account provides access to their services like Drive, Calendar, Sites, a variety of Gadgets and more when you are logged in to BU Google Apps. BU Google Apps access only at bu.edu/google or through bu.edu/webmail.
Creating a Google Apps account
- If you are a student, or current member of the faculty or staff, click on Enable a BU Google Apps account
- Read all instruction and click on I confirm that I have reviewed the contents of this page and would like to create a BU Google Apps account.
- Then enter your last name and your BU ID Number
- Click on Continue.
BU Login Name & Kerberos Password
Your BU login name and Kerberos password are wont to confirm your identity across most computing resources at the University.
- New and incoming students, faculty and staff will receive special instructions for creating your BU login name and Kerberos password from the Registrar or Human Resources
- If you’re already on campus but don’t have, or forgot, your BU login name and Kerberos password, please submit a Help request.

Bu Webmail Log in / Bu Google Mail Login
- First open this webpage.
- Click on Sign in to Bu Google Mail.
- Click on Mail
- Enter your BU Login name and password
- Click on Continue
Outlook Web Access (OWA) Login / Sign In to Office 365
Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) allows staff with an Enrollment and Student Affairs email account to access Exchange Online from any location with an online connected browser .
You can also access your Office 365 account employing a desktop e-mail program or mobile device.
To login to OWA:
- Visit at outlook.com/owa/bu.edu.
- Enter your full BU email address as the User Name and Kerberos password.
- Click Sign In to proceed.
Faculty/Staff/Student Password Reset
- Visit at bu.edu/kerberos to reset your password.
- Enter your current Kerberos password, and then choose a new password.
- If you enter your old password correctly, your password are going to be reset and you’ll be ready .
- However, if you enter your password incorrectly and can’t commit it to memory , click on Forgot login or password.
- Then Enter your last name and BU login name then click on Forgot Password.
- Enter your BU login name and choose a replacement Kerberos password, then click Continue.
- Once you’ve got chosen a replacement password, you’ll be asked to verify the account that they need on file for you. additionally , you want to agree that you simply understand the importance of safeguarding your identity.
- After a successful password reset, you’ll see the screen below for information on showing your BU ID to verify your identity.
Reset Locked Account
- Go to weblogin.bu.edu/accounts/unlockpw
- Enter your last name and BU ID number
- Click Continue
Unlock requires use of security questions which must be set in advance
Remember that once the account is unlocked, you will still need to enter and save your new password within the settings of whichever network tool you were using when the account locked.
How To Access in Bu Webmail Log in?
Ways to Log In:
Webmail is all online, so there’s nothing for your to set up. Simply log into using one of the Approaches below:
Option 1: Direct Login
To login to OWA
- Open your Browser In your PC or Laptop.
- Browse to outlook.com/owa/bu.edu.
- Enter your full BU email address as the User Name and Kerberos password.
- Click OK to proceed.

- Click on Sign in to Bu Google Mail.
- Click on Mail
- Enter your BU Login name and password
- Click on Continue

How to Bu Email Setup for iPhone?
- Go to iPhone settings option.
- On the Settings screen Scroll down and tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- On the Mail screen, tap Add Account and then select Google.
- Enter your full BU email address including the @bu.edu and tap Next
- Enter your BU login name and BU Kerberos passwords and click Log In.
- You can select to sync Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Notes, once you are done tap Save.
Setup BU Email Account on Android Phone (BU Google Mail)
(Recommended) Google Account sync method
- Open the Settings application in your Android.
- Select Accounts & Sync.
- Tap Add account button to add a Google account.
- Tap Next and Sign in.
- Enter your full BU e-mail address and your BU Kerberos password.
- Click Sign in.
- Check Sync Gmail and, optionally, check Sync Contacts or Sync Calendar as needed.
- Click Finish and Finish setup. Wait for synchronization to finish.
Your BU Google Mail can now be accessed through the Google Mail application.
(Alternate) IMAP method
- Open the Email application from your Android
- Enter your login@bu.edu e-mail address and BU Kerberos password, then click on Next.
- Select IMAP.
- Under incoming service settings enter folowing details
– Username: Enter your login@bu.edu e-mail address
– IMAP Server: imap.gmail.com
– Port: 993
– Security type: SSL - Select Next.
- Under outgoing service settings enter folowing details
– Username: BU e-mail address
– Password: Your Kerberos password
– SMTP Server: smtp.bu.edu
– Port: 465 - Select Next.
- Select how often you want your smartphone to check for new mail. Select Next.
- Optionally, give the account a name. Also enter your name as you’d like it displayed on outgoing mail.
- Select Done. You may now access your mail through the Email app in your app drawer.
Setup BU Email account on Mac Mail (BU Google Mail)
- Step 1
Click on Mail and select Add Account. - Step 2
Select the Google option and click on Continue. - Step 3
Enter your BU email address and click Next. - Step 4
Enter your BU login name and Kerberos password, then click Continue. - Step 5
Apple Mail will then configure itself and connect to your BU Google account.
Setup BU Email Account on Mozilla Thunderbird
- Step 1
Open Mozilla Thunderbird - Step 2
Go to Tools and select Account Settings. - Step 3
Then choose Account Actions and tap on Add Mail Account. - Step 4
– Enter Your name.
– Enter your Email address in the form login@bu.edu where login is your BU
login name.
– Enter your BU Kerberos password. - Step 5
Click on Continue and then click Manual config. - Step 6
In the Incoming Server enter following details
– Server hostname: imap.gmail.com.
– Port: 993
– SSL: SSL/TLS
– Authentication: Normal password
In the Outgoing Server Enter following details:
– Server hostname: smtp.bu.edu.
– Port: 465
– SSL: Select SSL/TLS
– Authentication: Select Normal password
– Username: enter your BU login name. - Step 7
Press Done. - Step 8
Select your newly created account labeled login@bu.edu where login is your BU login name and under Account name rename it so that you can distinguish it (from other BU accounts for instance). - Step 9
Press OK.
Configure Apple Mail for Office 365
- Step 1
Open Mail, go to the Mail menu, and choose Add Account. - Step 2
Select Exchange - Step 3
Then click Continue. - Step 4
Enter following details:
– Name: Type your Full Name
– Email Address: as login@bu.edu where login is your BU login name
– Password: your Kerberos password. - Step 5
Then click Sign In. - Step 6
You will be prompted to choose other Apple apps you might want to use with your Exchange account. Check the apps you want to use, then click Done. - Step 7
Mail will set up your account, and begin to sync your mail.
Configuring your iOS Device for Outlook/Exchange
- If you DO have an email account currently setup in the Mail application.
– Tap Settings -> Passwords & Accounts -> Add Account. - If you DO NOT have an email account currently setup in the Mail application.
– Tap Mail application.
– This will prompt a list of email providers - Tap Microsoft Exchange.
- Fill the required fields
– Email: Your BU email address
– Description: “Exchange“ - A pop-up should occur. Tap Sign In.
- A new window will open which will prompt your BU credentials. Input your BU email address and Kerberos Password, then click Sign In.
- Make sure the switches for Mail, Contacts, and Calendars are all switched ON or OFF, depending on your preference. Then tap Save.
Android with Office 365
Built in Mail app
- Step 1
Go to Settings. - Step 2
Under Accounts, select Add Account. - Step 3
Select either Corporate or Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, depending on your version of Android. - Step 4
– Enter your complete e-mail address
– Enter your Kerberos password. - Step 5
Click Next. - Step 6
If prompted enter outlook.office365.com for the server address. - Step 7
If prompted check Use Secure Connection and Accept All SSL Certificates. - Step 8
Set your Account options such as Days To Sync, Notifications, Sync Contacts, Sync Calendar. - Step 9
Click Done. - Step 10
Click Activate to activate device administrator. - Step 11
Name the account to distinguish between multiple accounts. - Step 12
Click Next.
Outlook Mobile App
- Step 1
After opening the app, tap Get Started. - Step 2
Enter your full BU email address and click on Continue. - Step 3
Then enter your BU email address and Kerberos password. - Step 4
Tap on Sign in button. - If your Office365 account requires you to authenticate with Duo, a Duo page like the one below will appear. By default, Duo will send a push notification to your primary device to authenticate.

After you successfully authenticate, Outlook may ask if you want to add another account in the app. Tap Skip. - Step 6
In the app tour that appears, choose Skip or tap the right arrow to continue.
Windows Phone with Office 365
- Step 1
Open Settings. - Step 2
Select Email+Accounts. - Step 3
Select Add an Account. - Step 4
Select Exchange. - Step 5
– Enter your complete e-mail address
– Enter your Kerberos password. - Step 6
Tap Sign In. - Step 7
Tap done to complete the setup.
Configure Outlook 2016 for Office 365
- Step 1
Open Outlook 2016 - Step 2
Go to Tools menu and select Accounts - Step 3
Click the + to Add an account, and then select Exchange or Office 365. - Step 4
Then enter following details:
– Email address: Enter your email address
– Authentication: Set User Name and Password
– User name: Set user name to login@bu.edu (where login is your BU login name)
– Password: Enter your password - Make sure there is a check mark next to Configure Automatically and then click Add Account.
- Close the Accounts window and you should be all set to begin using Outlook.
